• Day 1: Arrive in Yogyakarta

Upon arrival at Yogyakarta’s Adisucipto International Airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Vietnam By Bike’s Local Guide for beginning of Cycling Indonesia 14 Days. They will assist you with transferring to your hotel in the city center. After checking in and freshening up, you will have the afternoon free to explore the vibrant city of Yogyakarta on your own. Wander through the bustling Malioboro Street, filled with local vendors and street food stalls, or visit the impressive Kraton, the palace of the Yogyakarta Sultanate. In the evening, you may wish to attend a traditional Javanese dance performance.


  • Day 2: Yogyakarta – Borobudur Temple

After breakfast, you will be fitted with your bicycle and take a short transfer to the awe-inspiring Borobudur Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Spend the morning exploring the temple’s nine stacked platforms, representing the journey to enlightenment. Climb to the top for breathtaking views of the surrounding volcanic landscape. After your temple visit, you will begin your cycling journey, riding through scenic rural villages and lush landscapes to reach your accommodation for the night.


  • Day 3: Borobudur – Purworejo

Today’s cycling route will take you through the rolling hills and picturesque countryside of Central Java. Along the way, you will pass by small villages, where you can stop to interact with the friendly locals and learn about their traditional way of life. Keep an eye out for the iconic cone-shaped volcanic peaks that dot the horizon. Your destination for the day is the town of Purworejo, where you will have the opportunity to explore the local market and sample some delicious regional cuisine.


  • Day 4: Purworejo – Wonosobo

Get ready for a challenging but rewarding day on the bike. The route from Purworejo to Wonosobo will take you through some of the region’s most dramatic landscapes, including the winding roads that climb up the slopes of the Dieng Plateau. This high-altitude region is known for its volcanic lakes, ancient Hindu temples, and cool, misty climate. Upon reaching Wonosobo, you can relax and enjoy the town’s laid-back atmosphere.


  • Day 5: Wonosobo – Magelang

Today’s cycling leg will be a scenic one, as you wind your way through the lush, verdant landscapes of Central Java. Pedal past rice paddies, plantations, and sleepy villages, stopping along the way to interact with the friendly locals. Your destination for the day is the city of Magelang, home to the impressive Borobudur Temple, which you will have the opportunity to explore in more depth. In the evening, you can stroll through the city’s historic center and sample some of the local cuisine.


  • Day 6: Magelang – Surabaya

Bid farewell to Central Java as you cycle eastward towards the province of East Java. The route from Magelang to Surabaya will take you through a variety of landscapes, from rolling hills to flat, coastal plains. Along the way, you may catch glimpses of the towering volcanic peaks that dominate the region’s skyline. Upon reaching Surabaya, the largest city in East Java, you can explore the vibrant Tunjungan Plaza, a massive shopping and entertainment complex, or visit the historic Ampel Mosque.


  • Day 7: Surabaya – Bromo

After breakfast, you will transfer to the base of Mount Bromo, one of Indonesia’s most iconic and active volcanoes. Here, you will begin your cycling adventure through the otherworldly landscape of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. Pedal past vast, rolling seas of sand, weaving your way through the dramatic volcanic scenery. As you approach the volcano, you will have the opportunity to hike up to the rim of the crater for breathtaking views. Spend the night in a guesthouse near the park entrance.


  • Day 8: Bromo – Bondowoso

Today’s cycling route will take you through the picturesque East Javanese countryside, with rolling hills, lush plantations, and quaint villages. Along the way, you may have the chance to visit a traditional coffee plantation and learn about the process of coffee production. Your destination for the day is the town of Bondowoso, known for its unique traditional houses and the nearby Argopuro Mountain range.


  • Day 9: Bondowoso – Banyuwangi

Prepare for a challenging but rewarding ride as you cycle from Bondowoso to Banyuwangi, the easternmost town in Java. The route will take you through the rugged Ijen Highlands, known for their dramatic volcanic landscapes and the iconic Ijen Crater, which you may have the opportunity to visit. Upon reaching Banyuwangi, you can explore the lively waterfront area and sample some of the region’s famous seafood dishes.


  • Day 10: Banyuwangi – Gilimanuk (Bali)

After breakfast, you will take a short ferry ride across the Bali Strait, linking Java to the island of Bali. From the port of Gilimanuk, you will begin your cycling journey through the scenic landscapes of western Bali. Pedal past rice paddies, traditional villages, and towering volcanic peaks, including the iconic Mount Agung. Your destination for the day is the town of Gilimanuk, where you can relax and enjoy the coastal atmosphere.


  • Day 11: Gilimanuk – Ubud

Continue your cycling adventure through Bali, riding east towards the cultural heart of the island – Ubud. Along the way, you will pass through the lush, verdant landscapes of central Bali, with opportunities to stop and visit Hindu temples, traditional markets, and artisan workshops. Upon reaching Ubud, you can explore the town’s vibrant art scene, browse the local handicraft shops, and indulge in the region’s renowned cuisine.


  • Day 12: Ubud – Sanur

Today’s cycling route will take you from the lush, hilly terrain of Ubud to the coastal region of Sanur. Ride through picturesque rice paddies, past traditional Balinese compounds, and along the island’s winding roads. Upon reaching Sanur, you can spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach, swimming in the warm waters of the Bali Sea, or exploring the town’s laid-back beachfront promenade.


  • Day 13: Sanur – Nusa Dua

Your final cycling leg in Bali will take you from Sanur to the upscale resort area of Nusa Dua. Along the way, you may have the opportunity to visit the serene Pura Luhur Uluwatu, a Hindu temple perched atop a towering cliff overlooking the ocean. Once in Nusa Dua, you can enjoy the luxurious hotels, pristine beaches, and world-class dining options that the region is known for.


  • Day 14: Nusa Dua – Departure

On your final day, you will have the morning free to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, take a stroll along the beach, or engage in any last-minute activities or shopping before your departure. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight out of Indonesia, bidding farewell to the beautiful landscapes, fascinating culture, and memorable cycling adventure you experienced throughout your Cycling Indonesia 14 Days.
